J2K Ministries recognizes that today’s culture is aggressively opposing Biblical teaching on a wide range of issues. For issues pertaining directly to our ministry, we have adopted the following statements.
Our Positional Statements are closely related to the Statement of Faith in that it deals with both direct Biblical doctrine on various topics and in some cases, the direct application of Biblical doctrine on our system of belief.
A. Marriage and Sexuality
a. We have adopted the Nashville Statement on Biblical Sexuality which also addresses our position on gender identity: Nashville Statement on Biblical Sexuality
B. Divorce and Remarriage
a. We affirm that marriage was instituted by God to be between one man and one women, for life. We understand that divorce and/or remarriage is not God’s ideal plan, but due to the sinful choices of humanity it does happen. It is a covenant, as opposed to a contract, and is designed a picture of Christ’s covenant with His Bride, the church.
b. Due to the Scriptural gravity of divorce and/or divorce/remarriage, we will examine any divorce/remarriage situation on a case-by-case scenario prior to that person being accepted for involvement and/or leadership in Journey Ministries.
C. Social Justice and the Gospel
a. We have adopted “The Statement on Social Justice & the Gospel”:The Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel
– For further explanation as to why this matters in ministry, please see:
Voddie Bauchum and the Ramifications of Social Justice
D. Statement on Abuse
a. We believe abuse can be defined as any act or failure to act resulting in imminent risk, serious injury, death, physical or emotional or sexual harm, or exploitation of another person.
b. We condemn all forms of physical, sexual and/or verbal abuse.
c. We believe that abuse is not only a sin but is also a crime. It is destructive and evil. Abuse is a hallmark of the devil and is in direct opposition to the purposes of God. Abuse must not to be tolerated in the Christian community.
d. We believe that the local church and Christian ministries have a responsibility to establish safe environments; to execute policies and practices that protect against any form of abuse; to confront abusers and to protect the abused, which includes the responsibility to report abuse to civil authorities.
e. We believe that church and ministry leaders have a special obligation to report abuse to civil authorities. Moreover, these leaders are responsible for knowing the laws of their province/state about reporting the suspicion or accusation of child and spousal abuse, and for following those laws in good faith.
E. Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
a. We have adopted the following statement as an expression of our beliefs regarding the biblical understanding of manhood and womanhood and their respective roles. Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
